We had another great week in 5th Grade! Thanks for stopping by to read our blog.
Information About Middle School
The end of the school year is fast approaching and it won't be long before our learners will be middle schoolers! The middle school counselors will be holding Zoom meetings with learners during school on Monday, March 1st to share information and answer questions they may have. Please utilize the links below to access information about upcoming parent information meetings for rising 6th graders (current 5th graders). Please be sure to click on the correct link based on the middle school your learner will be attending.
If you aren't sure which middle school your learner will be attending, click here. Please note that it states that students that live in Town Lake Apartments will attend East.
MAP Reports
This year your learner's academic growth was measured using the NWEA MAP Growth Assessment. Today you will be receiving a report indicative of growth seen from their assessments. If your learner is virtual, you will be receiving an e-mail today from your homeroom teacher with the attached report. If your learner is in-person, your learner will be coming home with a physical copy of their report. Please click here if you would like any more information about NWEA MAP Growth Assessments.
Fourth Grading Period Commitment Forms
The commitment forms noting whether you would like your learner to be in-person or virtual for the 4th nine-week grading period will be emailed out this afternoon and are due back by Wednesday, March 3.
Principal Blog
Our Principal, Ms. Martin, has a Principal blog. We recommend reading this blog each time it's emailed as it is full of important information. Please click below for the most recent blog entry.
Book Fair
Our Spring virtual book fair is going on now through March 5. Click here to purchase items and support Town Center Elementary!
FREE LUNCH
The Child Nutrition Department is happy to announce that free meals for all in-person elementary students and free bundle meals for virtual learners have been extended through the rest of the 2020-2021 school year. Breakfast and lunch is FREE for ALL elementary students through the end of school when they pick up a meal in the cafeteria (for in-person learners) or via Wednesday Bundle Meals (virtual learners only). We are still asking that virtual learners sign up for bundle meals via the Bundle Meal Signup Form to help give us an idea of how to plan.
Calendar of Events
Wed. March 3 - Spring Picture Day
March 15-19 - Spring Break
BOOK CLUBS!
Next Tuesday, March 2, we will be starting a new unit in Reading called Fantasy Book Clubs. During this unit, students will be placed in book clubs and will be given a new book to read. Therefore, we will need parents of virtual students to come and pick up their son/daughter's assigned book on Friday 2/26, or Monday 3/1. You can come anytime during the school day. There will be a plastic bucket outside of the school doors with labeled bags. The students should not start reading their books until after our lesson on Tuesday, 3/2. Finally, we will need the students to return these books at the end of the unit.
Virtual Learning Reminders
If your son/daughter is a virtual student, we would love if you would help reinforce the idea that students need to submit an assignment for each course (Reading, Language & Literacy, Social Studies, Math, and Science) each day. We have had a lot of missing submissions lately. Sometimes this can cause students to get behind quickly as our curriculum builds throughout the week. If your son/daughter is having a hard time keeping up with the schedule of the day, please let us know.
This week students in 5C did a writing assignment during Class Meeting. We wrote about a time when we stood up for what was right or chose to do the right thing.
5th graders participated in Virtual Game Day this afternoon!
Thank you for taking the time for reading our blog. We truly appreciate our Town Center families!
