Opt-in Notice for Health Education for K-5 Student
Passed during the 87th (2nd) Legislative Session, Senate Bill 9, requires schools beginning in the 2022-2023 school year to educate students on the prevention of child abuse, family violence, dating violence and human trafficking. House Bill 1525 does the same for human sexuality.
Before a student may be provided with instruction related to child abuse, family violence, dating violence and human trafficking, Senate Bill 9 requires that Coppell ISD obtain written consent from the student's parent/guardian. House Bill 1525 requires the same concerning human sexuality.
At the elementary level, Coppell’s Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) approved the Quaver Health curriculum. It is a digitally based teacher-led resource and meets 100% of the Texas Essential Knowledge Skills (TEKS) for Health. QuaverEd is providing the following links and lessons in accordance with Texas Education Code 28.004 and pertaining to Senate Bill 9, House Bill 1525. ***It's not too late to complete the form***
Without written consent from a parent/guardian, students will not receive instruction related to child abuse, family violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and human sexuality.
If you have any questions, please reach out to our campus counselor, Kelly Matlock, at kmatlock@coppellisd.com.
Reminder: iPads
TCE 5th graders should come to school each day with their iPad and charger. Please ensure your child charges his/her iPad each evening. Your child should also check periodically to ensure his/her iPad's software is up to date (settings --> general --> software update).
Reminder: Snack
We will have a short snack time each day while we continue to work. 5th graders do not each lunch until 1:00 PM each day, so it's important that they have a healthy and nutritious snack each day to fuel their bodies. We also ask that the snack they bring is completely free of peanuts/tree nuts. This will help provide a safe environment for all learners. Thank you for your help!
REMINDER:
SKY RANCH MEDICATIONS
including
OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS
If you plan to send any medications, including over the counter medications (Such as pain relievers like Tylenol or Advil, allergy medication, etc.), you must complete a medication form for each medication and return that form to TCE PRIOR TO OUR TRIP. Please turn the forms in ASAP. We understand that you may need to bring in the actual medication closer to the trip.
Kristen Crenshaw, our school nurse, will collect all medications prior to our departure.
All over-the-counter medications must be in the original bottle and have specific directions as to dosage and frequency written by the parent. A prescriber’s order is required for all nonprescription medications.
Prescription medications must be in the original bottle with dosage and frequency listed on the label.
Each medication should be separately bagged in a zip-lock bag with a completed medication form, which you can find within this packet.
Medications will be administered only to students whose parents send medication with appropriate dosage and frequency information.
**We also encourage you to read the guidelines on the medication request form.
Ms. Martin, our principal, sends out a weekly parent newsletter. Please make sure you read this every week.
