Friday, January 29

We had another great week in 5th Grade! Thanks for stopping by to read our blog.

Principal Blog
Our Principal, Ms. Martin, has a Principal blog. We recommend reading this blog each time it's emailed as it is full of important information. Please click below for the most recent blog entry.

VALENTINE'S DAY
Our campus has made the decision to move our second party of the year to May instead of the usual February Valentine's Day Party. While our staff will still do some type of activity for the holiday, we will not have our usual full party or exchange paper valentines. We look forward to planning the end of the year party with our room moms.

Reminder: A Note from Our Counselor
During the month of February, our counselor will teach all learners about personal safety using the "Play it Safe" program. "Play it Safe" is a child abuse awareness and prevention program for children. It teaches children to protect themselves by recognizing, reacting to, and reporting potentially dangerous situations, including unsafe and confusing touches.

For more information, please visit the "Play it Safe" website: https://playitsafe.org/index.php. All curriculum materials are available for your viewing during the month of January. Also, feel free to contact me at kmatlock@coppellisd.com if you have any questions.

Each face to face class will have receive the presentation on a separate day. Then, we will schedule a separate presentation for all of the virtual students in the 5th grade.

FREE LUNCH
The Child Nutrition Department is happy to announce that free meals for all in-person elementary students and free bundle meals for virtual learners have been extended through the rest of the 2020-2021 school year.  Breakfast and lunch is FREE for ALL elementary students through the end of school when they pick up a meal in the cafeteria (for in-person learners) or via Wednesday Bundle Meals (virtual learners only).  We are still asking that virtual learners sign up for bundle meals via the Bundle Meal Signup Form to help give us an idea of how to plan.

Calendar of Events

February 2nd: Students will take the Reading MAP test in the morning.

February 9th: Students will take the Science MAP test in the morning.

February 12th: Student Holiday *NO SCHOOL*

February 15th: Weather Day -- This means that since we haven't had to use a day for a weather closure yet this year, the students will have this day off. *NO SCHOOL*

If your son/daughter is a virtual student, we would love if you would help reinforce the idea that students need to submit an assignment for each course (Reading, Language & Literacy, Social Studies, Math, and Science) each day. We have had a lot of missing submissions lately. Sometimes this can cause students to get behind quickly as our curriculum builds throughout the week. If your son/daughter is having a hard time keeping up with the schedule of the day, please let us know.

Students in 5A & 5B talked about healthy eating as an extension of Habit 7 from the Seven Habits of Happy Kids. Students looked at the MyPlate Plan and discussed nutritional decisions and healthy habits.

Thank you for taking the time for reading our blog. We truly appreciate our Town Center families!

Picture Retakes on January 25th
This Monday, January 25th is picture day at school for any learners who did not participate in our picture day in the fall or would like retakes. These pictures are used for our school yearbook, so if you were not able to participate in our fall picture day, we'd love to have you included this Monday. For our remote learners who need their pictures taken, please arrive at the SIDE LOOP between 8:00-8:30 a.m. Parents will be asked to stay in their vehicles. A staff member will escort your child from the vehicle, into the cafeteria to take their picture, and then back out to your vehicle. Your child must wear their mask during this time. They will take it off during the actual picture time.

The link to order your child's individual picture is mylifetouch.com
