Our graduation ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 25th at 1:00 PM. We ask that you arrive by 12:30 or earlier so that everyone can be seated and ready for our ceremony to begin. Please RSVP to our 5th Grade Graduation Ceremony here!  This will help speed up the check-in process once you arrive at school for the ceremony.

Students will be invited to dress up for the ceremony. We would suggest dress pants and a collared shirt and/or dresses or skirts with nicer shoes. If your fifth-grade boy is going to wear a tie, please pre-tie it before you send it to school. They can bring their nice clothes with them to school to change into after picnic lunch (which will be earlier than normal).

Please upload any pictures you have from Class Parties, school events, etc. to our yearbook! It only takes a few minutes, and it makes our yearbook so much more engaging!

In Reading and Language Arts, we continued our Fantasy unit and exploring the elements of the genre and worked on writing letters.

In Social Studies, we began learning about World War I.

In math this week we continued to review for our Math STAAR test this week.  In the next few weeks we will be working on showing off some learning through some extension projects and activities.

Next week in Science we will be starting our Minecraft EDU Biomes project. The students will get to show off their knowledge of food chains, ecosystems and living and non-living interactions through this creation project.

We have noticed that more and more of our students have been wearing smart watches and bringing cell phones to school, so we want to take a minute to be clear about expectations for those devices.

Students are not permitted to communicate on their personal devices during the school day. (The same rule applies for their iPads.) This includes parents. Please help us in reinforcing this expectation.  If you need to get in touch with your son/daughter during the day, please email your child's teacher or call the front office.

We have talked about these expectations with the students. We've let them know that if they are using their smart watch, cell phone, or other personal devices to communicate, they will receive one warning. After that one warning, we will ask for those devices to stay at home.

A Note From the Fifth Grade Teachers

iPads
TCE 5th graders should come to school each day with their iPad and charger. Please ensure your child charges his/her iPad each evening. Your child should also check periodically to ensure his/her iPad's software is up to date (settings --> general --> software update).

Water Bottles
Please help ensure that your child brings a water bottle to school each day. While learners are able to purchase a water bottle from the cafeteria, that is not an every day solution. We have multiple water bottle filling stations on campus, so learners can easily refill their bottles.

Snack
We will have a short snack time each day while we continue to work. 5th graders do not each lunch until 1:00 PM each day, so it's important that they have a healthy and nutritious snack each day to fuel their bodies. We also ask that the snack they bring is completely free of peanuts/tree nuts. This will help provide a safe environment for all learners. Thank you for your help!

Car Tags
Please do your best to keep your car tag visible when/if you come through the carline to pick up your 5th grader. It helps us get the learners into their cars quickly and efficiently. This is especially helpful when it's raining, extremely hot, or extremely cold.
