5th Graders & Smart Watches

We have noticed that more and more of our students have been wearing smart watches to school, so we want to take a minute to be clear about expectations for those devices.

Students may wear their smart watches to school, but they may not use them to text, email, or call anyone during the day. (The same rule applies for their iPads.) This includes parents. Please help us in reinforcing this expectation.  If you need to get in touch with your son/daughter during the day, please email your child's teacher or call the front office.

We have talked about these expectations with the students. We've let them know that if they are using their smart watch to communicate, they will receive one warning. After that one warning, they will lose the privilege of wearing their smart watches during the day and will have to keep them in their backpacks.

Thank you for your support!

A Note From Ms. Matlock
Dear Parents and Guardians,

In February your child’s Professional School Counselor will meet with all students about the topic of personal safety. Coppell ISD uses Play It Safe. Play It Safe  is a research-based, age-appropriate abuse prevention program.

The purpose of this personal safety presentation is to provide all children with information and practical skills to protect themselves by recognizing, reacting to, and reporting potentially dangerous situations. Topics that will be addressed vary at each grade level as they consider the child’s age and maturity level.

Our Professional School Counselors are the presenters and will visit with each classroom, K-5, for approximately 30-45 minutes. Stories, puppets, group discussions, and videos are used in the low-key, age-appropriate presentation.

You can obtain more information about the Play it Safe program at the following link: https://playitsafe.org/index.php. Also, feel free to contact your child’s Professional School Counselor if you have any questions.

If you DO NOT want your child to view the Play It Safe Program, please email your campus' Professional School Counselor by Friday, February 4th.   Your child’s teacher will make sure that your child goes to an alternate learning environment during the Play It Safe presentation.

If you would like your child to participate in this valuable learning opportunity no further action is needed.

Sincerely,
Anne Lehew, M.Ed., PSC
Coordinator of Counseling and Social Emotional Learning
TCE's counselor is Kelly Matlock.  She can be reached at kmatlock@coppellisd.com.

Thursday, February 17th

Thank you for taking the time to read our blog!

House Meeting
We hope you have heard your child talk about their House at school. This is a fun way to sort the entire grade into four separate, mixed groups to compete against each other for points. Students can earn points for being kind, helpful, finding vocabulary words in their books, answering math facts, etc.
We will have our February House Meeting (during school) on Wed. 23rd. We hope to take House Photos, so we encourage the students to wear their House color

Friday, Feb. 25th the students can bring in a board game or card game to play with their friends as we use our February Coupon. We gifted the students one coupon per month of a fun activity as a Holiday gift.

Valentines Party

Our 5th Grade Valentine’s Day party will be on Monday, February 14th at 2:00 in the cafeteria.

We will exchange Valentine’s before our party. Your child may make or bring Valentines cards for each person in the class.  The names of the students in our class are listed on the back. In addition, students may decorate and bring their own bag or box from home to hold their valentines.  They may decorate it however they would like! Please be sure that their box/bag will fit inside their cubby. We can’t wait to see how creative they get!

In addition, if your child chooses to pass out Valentines, please send them to school with a bag/box to hold the Valentines they’ll pass out in addition to the one they’ll use as a mailbox.
