Curriculum Updates:

Math
We will be wrapping up our unit over coordinate planes this week, and are planning for the learners to take their test this Friday, March 7th. The leaners are able identify the origin of a coordinate plane, and the x and y axis, along with how to graph an ordered pair (with positive numbers only) on the coordinate plane. They will also be able to generate a numerical pattern when given a rule in the form y= ax or y= x+a, and will be able to determine if a graph is displaying a multiplicative pattern (ordered pairs that follow the rule y= ax), or an additive pattern (ordered pairs that follow the rule y=x + a).

Science
This week in science, we will be studying the difference between climate and weather. The learners will each draw a city in different climate zones and they will track the data of that city for 1 week. We will be comparing that data to the weather in Coppell.

Social Studies
Learners are continuing to learn about Facing Slavery and the Civil War through Unit 5. We will continue working through an interactive hyperdoc, and an article with questions.

Reading & Language Arts
We have just wrapped up our poetry unit in reading! The learners have read a variety of poems with different moods and sound effects. Ask them about their favorites! Next week we will start a review unit in anticipation of the STAAR test. We'll focus first on reviewing fiction skills. Then we'll review literary nonfiction and nonfiction. We will be wrapping up our writing poetry unit this week. The learners have created their own poetry books, which we will be excited to share with you at Open House.
