Week of April 18th

Hi TCE Families,

Thank you for taking time to read the blog. We can not believe we travel to Sky Ranch this week! The teachers and students are so excited for our trip. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your learner's homeroom teacher with any questions or concerns you may have regarding camp. Please see below for more information regarding camp.

What's happening around TCE?

Sky Ranch Updates

All medications and medication forms were due to Nurse Kane Friday, April 18th. If you have not turned medications in, please get that taken care of ASAP.

Please arrive to school Wednesday, April 24th on time. Students will not go upstairs to classrooms on this day. Instead, they will come straight to the cafeteria to prepare for camp. Learners will look at the glass windows on the cafeteria to see their cabin and class groups. After, they will sort their luggage based on their cabin. Then, they'll go inside and sit at the tables in their groups.

We are scheduled to leave promptly at 8:30 am on Wednesday, April 24th. We are scheduled to return to TCE on Friday, April 26th around 1:30pm. Please plan arrangements for your son/daughter to be picked up at this time. If your child is going home with another adult we must have written consent. On Friday, please check any 5th grade educators' twitter account as we will be tweeting out information about our arrival time back at TCE. We will also be tweeting pictures while at camp, so you can follow along on our trip!

Please remember to have your child wear his/her blue Sky Ranch T Shirt on Wednesday, April 24th. Students are also asked to wear their gray and yellow grade level shirt on the Friday that we will be at Sky Ranch.

Please make sure your child has their name on all clothing items they are wearing/packing for camp.

They will need a bag to carry around camp as they go to classes. It can be a lightweight drawstring bag or their normal backpack.

As a reminder, learners may not bring any food or drink (other than water) on the trip.

Finally, if you need another copy of the packing list, you can access it here. There are a few things that are not included on Sky Ranch's packing list that you may want to help your son/daughter pack:

  • sunscreen and/or bug spray
  • a hat and/or sunglasses
  • a swimsuit
  • socks
  • shampoo
  • light jacket
If you have any questions about Sky Ranch, please don't hesitate to email your son/daughter's teacher.

Curriculum Updates

Math

In math, the learners have been working on an end of the year math project. Some of the students have been planning out their "dream vacation", while others are planning for their future in a "million dollar project." The students have been researching the cost of college tuition, plane tickets, and housing while learning how to budget to get what they want.

Science

This week in science, we will be continuing our life science unit. The learners will be investigating ecosystems, food chains vs food webs, fossils, and adaptions. The kids have been having so much fun with the different games they have been playing during this unit.

ELAR

In writing, students will continue working on writing letters.

Social Studies

Learners in A/B are continuing to learn about the aftermath of The Civil War, including reconstruction. Students in C/D/E have finished their Unit 5 test and will be moving into Unit 6. Unit 6 covers Economic Changes in the 19th and 20th Century.
