Friday, May 14th

We just have a few weeks left in 5th Grade! Thanks for stopping by to read our blog.

STAAR Testing
May 18th and 19th will be STAAR testing for VIRTUAL learners. Face to face learners will work on alternate assignments REMOTELY at home. May 20th will be STAAR testing for VIRTUAL learners, however FACE TO FACE learners will still come to school. If you have any questions about this, please ask your homeroom teacher.

**When your son/daughter comes for testing, please be sure he/she has a charged iPad and headphones.

**This (below) is a copy of an email that Mrs. Ford sent to parents of virtual learners through Parent Square:
  • On May 18th, 19th and 20th please drop off your child in the side loop (near the cafeteria) at 7:40 am. Teachers and administration will be out in the loop to greet learners and help them find their way to classrooms. Below are some reminders to help your child have a successful start to their day.
  • Make sure your learner has had a good breakfast.
  • We will have snacks and a bottle of water for each learner.
  • Drop off learners in the side/cafe loop between 7:40-7:50 am with their mask, fully charged iPad, charger, and a book to read (in case they finish their exam early).
  • Learners will begin their assessment no later than 8:15 in their homeroom classroom.
  • Learners will be socially distanced.
  • Please be in the side loop at 12:15 pm to pick up your child.

Talent Show
Calling all 5th graders with talent! We will be having our 5th Grade Talent Show on Flipgrid this year! Any 5th grader can post a video to the Flipgrid. We only have a few submissions so far, so we'd love your help in encouraging the kids to post and reminding them to film. ALL videos are due on Flipgrid by Wednesday, May 19th. Each child may perform in one solo act OR one group act OR one of each. Each act can be no longer than 2 minutes and must be suitable for all audiences. You can access the Flipgrid by clicking here

Graduation (Lots of Information)

We would love to invite you to come celebrate our 5th graders on the end of their last walk. If you are able, you are welcome to come and line outside walkway at the entrance to the building. We will exit from the front doors, and we think it would be great for the kids' parents to cheer them out as they finish their final walk. *Note: We will make our way outside around 12:20, so we suggest you start lining up around 12:15.

WE NEED YOUR HELP WITH GRADUATION
We are working on putting together a 5th Grade Video for our Graduation Celebration. As part of this video, we have asked each student to design two slides. The template for these slides as well instructions on how to complete them is in each class' homeroom folder. Students will be given some time to work on these in class, but will likely need some time at home too. (This is a great activity for the week they're at home/not taking STAAR.) These slides are due May 20th.

On one of these slides, there is a template for each child to include three photos of themselves. We'd love your help finding and selecting pictures from throughout elementary school.

For the middle picture, we will be taking portraits of our Face to Face kids. We've asked our virtual kids to take their own portraits. Parents of virtual kids, see this presentation for more information on these portraits.
