Friday, January 19th

Extended Specials occurs every other Tuesday.

5th Grade Extended Specials Days for January:
January 8 & 23

Regular Specials Schedule for All Grades:

We have noticed that more and more of our students have been wearing smart watches and bringing cell phones to school, so we want to take a minute to be clear about expectations for those devices.

Students are not permitted to communicate on their personal devices during the school day. (The same rule applies for their iPads.) This includes parents. Please help us in reinforcing this expectation.  If you need to get in touch with your son/daughter during the day, please email your child's teacher or call the front office.

We have talked about these expectations with the students. We've let them know that if they are using their smart watch, cell phone, or other personal devices to communicate, they will receive one warning. After that one warning, we will ask for those devices to stay at home.

Please pay online through this link or scan the QR code above.

Our Sky Ranch Parent Informational Meeting was yesterday, Thursday 1/18 at 5:30 pm

Your 5th Grader should have come home with a printed letter regarding Valentine's Day. There's a copy of the front of the letter below as well. If you need another copy to have classmates' names, reach out to your homeroom teacher.

Please upload any pictures you have from Class Parties, school events, etc. to our yearbook! It only takes a few minutes, and it makes our yearbook so much more engaging!

This week in writing, we started our Opinion Writing Unit. Students were given three prompts to discuss in class and were then asked to write a short paragraph expressing their opinions. Next week, we will dive into our big debate of the unit: Should schools continue to sell chocolate milk?

In reading, we began to prepare for a new group research project starting next week. During that project, the 5th graders will create a podcast about their research. In preparation for that, we explored some educational and kid-friendly podcasts in class.

In spelling, we began our study of Greek and Latin roots. The 5th Graders learned about the root, -tele, this week.

This week we learned about the diverse groups of people that traveled West. The students enjoyed reading about each of the different groups.

This week in math our learners finished up our Unit 5 over fractions and we moved onto Coordinate Planes. We unpacked the vocabulary that goes with our unit and just started understanding ordered pairs and how to graph them.

This week in science the learners wrapped up Unit 3 with a before and after poster over a landform impacted by erosion, they finished their vocabulary Keynote and took their posttest. Next week we are working on a Alternative Energy Research project where the kids will work in groups to share how their renewable energy resource could best support TCE.

A Note From the Fifth Grade Teachers

iPads
TCE 5th graders should come to school each day with their iPad and charger. Please ensure your child charges his/her iPad each evening. Your child should also check periodically to ensure his/her iPad's software is up to date (settings --> general --> software update).

Water Bottles
Please help ensure that your child brings a water bottle to school each day. While learners are able to purchase a water bottle from the cafeteria, that is not an every day solution. We have multiple water bottle filling stations on campus, so learners can easily refill their bottles.

Snack
We will have a short snack time each day while we continue to work. 5th graders do not each lunch until 1:00 PM each day, so it's important that they have a healthy and nutritious snack each day to fuel their bodies. We also ask that the snack they bring is completely free of peanuts/tree nuts. This will help provide a safe environment for all learners. Thank you for your help!

Car Tags
Please do your best to keep your car tag visible when/if you come through the carline to pick up your 5th grader. It helps us get the learners into their cars quickly and efficiently. This is especially helpful when it's raining, extremely hot, or extremely cold.
