February 20th-23rd

Happy Friday! We hope everyone is staying dry and warm with all of this rain we have had lately. Please see below for some updates from 5th grade.

Curriculum Connections

In math this week, the learners created some Kahoots to review all of the concepts we have been working on in math this year. Have your child sign in to their account and you can play these at home as a family! We are currently in our expressions and equations unit, with our next unit being measurement. We spent some time looking at different expressions and decoding word problems with a letter standing as the unknown number.

In science, we have been wrapping up our Earth's Changing Surface unit this week. Learner's showed their understanding of weathering, erosion, and deposition, as well as different landforms. We are excited to start exploring renewable and nonrenewable resources, as part of our Alternative Energy unit!

In reading, we have wrapped up our unit on expository/non-fiction texts. Learners reviewed the importance of having a growth mindset. We also challenged ourselves to achieve what we feel we can't do.

In social studies, we finished talking about our US government and started our discussions about the Westward Expansion.
