February 5th-9th

Valentine's Day Party
Our 5th grade Valentine's party will be held on Wednesday, February 14th at 2:00 PM in the cafeteria. All parents are welcome to join. Your child's homeroom teacher will also share with you a class list of names if your child chooses to make valentines. We ask that your learner brings a valentine for every one in their class! Also, make sure that any treats that may come with are peanut and nut free. If your learner would like to make a box to hold their valentines, they need to decorate this at home.

No School
Monday, February 19th will be a holiday for the learners. There will be no school.

Engineering Extravaganza
This annual event will be held on February 22nd in the evening. More details to come!

Jump Rope for Heart
Jump Rope for Heart will be Friday, February 23rd at 11:10! Parents are welcome to come watch their child during this time.

Sky Ranch Packet and Form Reminder
All forms from the Sky Ranch packet will need to be turned in by March 9th. This is also the due date of the last payment. You are welcome to turn in the forms before the due date!

Calling all Dads!
We are still in needs of dad chaperones for some of our 5th grade classes for our Sky Ranch trip from April 25-27th. The cost for chaperones is $200 and you will need to fill out the chaperone interest form in your learner's packet to bring back to school. It is important that we have enough dad chaperones in order for us to be able to go on this trip. Please let your homeroom teacher know if you are interested!

What's Happening in the Classroom?

In math this week, we have been completing flipped and blended lessons on expressions and equations. Learners have been exploring data from the last Olympics to practice creating stem-and-leaf plots, dot plots, and scatterplots. We have also been exploring new vocabulary such as factors and multiples, and prime and composite numbers.

In science this week, we have been continuing our unit on weathering, erosion, and deposition. Learners have had the opportunity to explore how these three forces play a part in creating landforms as well as destruction around the world.

In social studies, we are learning about the three branches of government and their main responsibilities. We are also learning about the members of each branch.

In language arts, we focused on vivid verbs this week. In reading, we focused on main idea and summarization. Learners should also be activating their background knowledge and asking questions before, during, and after reading.
