January 29th-February 2nd

What's Happening at TCE?

Six Flags Read to Succeed
Your learner needs to log 6 hours of reading between now and February 23rd in order to receive a free ticket to Six Flags. Please have your learner complete their log and turn it into their homeroom by February 23rd if they choose to participate.

Valentine's Day Party
Our 5th grade Valentine's party will be held on Wednesday, February 14th at 2:00 PM in the cafeteria. All parents are welcome to join. Your child's homeroom teacher will also send home a class list of names if your child chooses to make valentines. We ask that your learner brings a valentine for every one in their class! Also, make sure that any treats that may come with are peanut and nut free. If your learner would like to make a box to hold their valentines, they need to decorate this at home.

Monday, February 19th will be a holiday for the learners. There will be no school.

Engineering Extravaganza
This annual event will be held on February 22nd in the evening. More details to come!

Jump Rope for Heart
Jump Rope for Heart will be Friday, February 23rd at 11:10! Parents are welcome to come watch their child during this time.

What's Happening in the Classroom?

Homework: Please make sure that your learner is completing the required homework. They will have a weekly math homefun sheet handed out at the start of the week that is due each Friday. Also, we will begin reading vocabulary homework on Monday. These words will be assessed on Friday. We will also begin Article/Passage of the Week on Monday, but we will complete it in class all week to model how to complete this homework assignment. Thank you for your continued support!

In reading, we are continuing to make meaningful connections, as well as activating our background knowledge to make inferences from nonfiction texts.

In language arts, we focused on compound-complex sentences and are continuing to write expository texts.

In math, we are exploring coordinate planes, equations, graphs, and input-output tables. Learners have been using the app Desmos to create and explore data.

In science, learners are exploring weathering, erosion, and deposition. See the pictures below of some great learning that has been happening!

In social studies, we are continuing to learn about America's early documents, as well as getting into the three branches of government.
